Hey everyone

First post here and I hope I've put it in the right place. Let me start by explaining what I use at the moment.

A first Gen Raspberry Pi Model A with a 4TB external HDD connected to a router. Through SMB I then use my Ipad to wirelessly stream movies or TV series. I also use it as a primitive NAS.

The problem I have is its extremely slow for anything HD. It also needs resetting about twice a week as it's prone to crash.

The reason I use a Raspberry Pi is portability. I work away from home in a set location and will only have limited luggage weight allowance and space.

Does anyone know or can anybody think of a better solution?

Thanks in advance

Never seen the NUC so will have a look now thanks.

Oh jesus sorry. Model B I meant! It was a present and I could have sworn my brother said it was the original, obviously not.

The Router used is a Tenda W308R. Connection speed from the Pi is 100MB, Wireless Speed is 300MB. I doubt im getting upto those speeds though.

It is an iPad Air im using.

I was thinking of a wireless HDD but ideally would need 4TB.

Micro SD cards also an option..

What tests could I do on the system? As I said above I doubt I would get 300mb from the wireless its just what I read on the specs.

A new Router with the option to plug in a HDD maybe? Any one any recommendations for those?
