Media files crashing Explorer?

Im having a problem with some types of media files mostly movies (avi's)crashing my explorer..

It exiting all my programs running in the background and shuts all open windows the error im getting is:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: xvid.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0000eb92

Ive tryed re-installing my codecs but no joy.. i cant think of anything else to try.

Any help would be great cheers.

if you are veiwing your files in thumbnails then run this

start/run/C:\WINDOWS\system32\regsvr32.exe /u shmedia.dll

To enable again, do the same but remove the /u

thats how i fixed it when it happened to me

Or instead of working around the problem by removing the media previewing capabilities of Explorer you could always try updating your multimedia codecs - especially DivX and other similar ones.
