Media hub

A friend of mine has asked me about some sort of media hub for his living room. He has his PC upstairs and TV downstairs, doesnt have WiFi. HE basically wants some kinda HDD that he can plug into his TV and watch media from this HDD. His TV has a VGA input.

I think something like the Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player but he would obversily have to buy an extra HDD on top of that. Does anyone have any other ideas. Does the WD work without WiFi? Maybe some sort of DVD/HDD player might be better.

Just after some advice really.

what sort of media will he be using? movies/movies/tv shows/ etc?

PS3 is great as a media player. Combine it with PS3 Media Server and you can stream pretty much every file type out there. You can even access DVD's from your PC's DVD drive and stream that to your PS3.

why doesnt he get wireless?, not exactly expensive to set up

combine that with ps3 or xbox360 sorted
