Wasnt sure were to post this hence the general hardware section.
I have my old gaming PC that I would ideally like to get setup in the loft to store all my media. The pc is an old pentium Q666 with 4 gig of ram and a Geforce 9800 gfc card. Its not getting any use at the moment so I thought it would be ideal as a solution for my network storage needs. What I am asking I suppose is where do I start to look for software that I can use to setup the server? FreeNas I have heard a lot about and that also has a plex plugin which I am using from my main downstairs PC at the moment how would Plex server run on the above PC? would be ok for 1080p playback and transcoding? Also I would love the server to be able to shutdown and wake up on Lan becuase ultimatly I am looking to save some money on the electric bill by not running the server when its not being used.
