Im thinking about revamping my HTPC/media PC at some point not too sure when but hopefully soon ish.

My current rig is P4, 3Ghz
1gig ram
6500 Nvida card
and a nebula TV card

This dose the job but, it is very noisy and creates a lot of heat. What Im after is some thing that runs a lot more quieter and cooler.
Ive got a few things in mind for a new case and video card but was wondering on the CPUs.Here are a few points I want to cover.
1) Firstly I dont want to overclock
2) I'd like it to be able to play HD content at some point 1080p.
3) As slient and as cool running as possible

I have been looking at a few AMD chips more so the X2 AM2 5000+(Brisbane Core), would this fit the bill or is it OTT?

I've got an X2 3800+ EE in mine, and it handles 1080p content fine.

1080i MPEG2 streams are fine, but it's less happy with BBCHD's silly interlacing.
