Been thinking about getting a media PC for quiet lounge use to play music, Digital TV, Blu-Ray Discs, act as a lounge PC etc. Would be hooked up to a decent HDMI 32" LCD TV

What do you all think?

Lose the Q6600 and get an E8200. If you spend a little on a cheap graphics card that will do HDCP, i would have thought you would have a cooler system overall, especially if you undervolt/underclock the cpu, which means a quieter system!

That mobo does support HDCP :)

If not encoding/converting video, as mentioned any of the E2000 series Intel's will do ;)

EDIT: Alternative spec...

That mobo/chipset is getting good reviews ;)

Yes I know it does, but it will use a lot of CPU doing it, I remember seeing reviews of the mobo and even with something like a 2.5gig core2 it was going at 100% playing blu-ray! I think you're better off leaving the video decoding to a dedicated graphics card if you want a quieter system.

hp7909 has given a good spec. I agree about the 780G chipset. The only changes i would make would be to get the cheaper Antec Fusion case and swap the HDD for a 750Gb Sammy drive which is super quiet AND faster than a Raptor X.

Might also be worth waiting for the new 4850e AMD cpu which is basically designed to run with the 780g chipset and uses only 45W of power!

Also need to add an OS (go for vista home premium 32bit), and a media center remote control (official microsoft one should do the trick)
