Media PC - what are my options?

Hi

Okay, I currently have a Seagate media drive connected to a Gigabit network. I use an ancient Asus Atom 330 based silent PC with a tiny footprint connected to a smart TV. this is to play films and stuff. However, it is getting long in the tooth.

Now I can connect the smart TV and stream the films via that but the library feature isn't much to write home about.

I'd like something similar to replace the old Asus. It currently runs W7 with XBMC and MPC, connected to the TV via an Onkyo receiver.

Needs and musts:

I am not particularly interested in building a PC any more. Not that I can't, just that I want something that works out of the box.

Must be silent.

Can't be ugly and big: I like low key.

I have no interest in playing games on it.

So, people of OCUK - what are my options? As for budget - not a huge amount as media streamers themselves are pretty cheap. I'd just like some flexibility.

If all you want to do is stream and perhaps run a few apps then consider an Amazon Fire TV.
I was also going to build a small media PC but the AFT does everything I need.
You can install Kodi, SPMC and Plex on it and then also run apps like BBC news, Sky News, Web Browsers etc.

Mr Dimple!

Hmmm... so it has no issues running any file type and so on? It's an interesting proposition as I also have Amazon Video. I run Plex on the kids' Now TV/Roku thing and it seems okay.

Any issues running 5.1 sound or anything?
