Hi All,

Looking to pull all me gear together. Currently got all my movies etc on my main rig upstairs. I then stream to my Xbox. It’s not bad but think a media PC would be a lot better. I’ve also got all my lighting and electric on remote control.

Looking to build a media PC capable of holding all my media, might want to stream HD at some point and be able to control of my remote hardware. I’ve got the RF receiver and transmitter so that’s sorted. Might use Homeseer or Grinder, not sure yet. What I need to look at is what sort of power my PC needs.

It’ll be under the stairs so doesn’t need to be compact. I’ve been poking around so old bits littering my house and this is what ive found -

Abit BE7 raid mobo
2.4 P4 chip
2 x 512 PC2100 Ram
ATI 9800 SE AIW
5.1 sound blaster live digital sound card
340 watt psu

Could I do it with this or am I asking to much. Just moved into a new place so money is tight but I could but a few bits if needed

What you think?

Cheers Engram. PSU is a fair point. I'll probably be using sleep mode a lot and with it being used as a reciever an dtransmitter i guess it'll be awake a fair bit. Is there such a think as 'energy saving' PSU? My current PSU could be 7+ years old so im sure a newer one would be better than nothing.

Ive also been reading about what OS to use. Gone stick with windows of some form and Windows 7 is looking good. Any reason why i shouldnt?

just about to buy a DVI to HDMI cable when the guy said there were many versions. DVI-I and DVI-D (and A but dont need that). Ive got a DVI-D lead. how can i tell if its correct?
