Media Player gone Runk

My media player, versions 9-11 (or whatever is the current latest beta thingy) are all a bunch of crap. With vids embedded on webpages like BBC news videos and just about everything else, the system hangs for about 15 seconds while media player does something, then all movies play at a whopping 0.2 fps or something).

Any idea what might be causing this or how to fix it?

do you have AV and antispyware programs? (any newly installed ones?) might be scanning it way to much or something?

could try insatlling ffdshow and installing wmp again..
