Just for a change, i'm having computer problems....

I've just re-installed Vista Ultimate, my drivers, and antiVirus. I decided to try a DVD, but Media Player crashes as soon as it loads up. It looks like a problem with the Windows File System (going by the Vista fault diag thing), as there's nothing wrong with the harddrive (according to Seagate SeaTools anyway)...

Is there any way to repair the file system, or should i just delete Media Player and re-install it!?! Not sure why the file system would be screwed, but if Media Player is affected, is it likely that other aspects of Vista will be corrupt too?

Cheers

Ah ok, thx guys. ;)

Luckily Media Centre seems to work, so that'll do for now anyway.

You using x64 vista as vmc uses 64bit wmp11 while the os uses 32bit as default.

I have the occassional crash of wmp11 (x64 ultimate) when I try to run certain files, I put it down to dodgy codecs. You considered completely wiping any codecs and starting over

The only codecs i've added so far are in with Divx Player, i guess it could be that, although i'd have thought the error would say codec related, and not file system.. Or am i giving Vista too much credit for problem solving hehe!

I'm just using the pre-installed media player and media centre, with vista x64 Ultimate.

On a similar note... Any idea why media centre isn't outputting the audio in 5.1? It just seems to be coming out in Stereo!?!
