Media Server and HTPC

I have an mITX computer that I want to sit in the lounge, on 24/7 running XBMC to play video and steams such as iplayer.

Additionally, I will use this device to stream music and video from, on my laptop etc..

Which Linux variety would you go with?

I'm familiar with Mint, Ubuntu and less so Debian

Any of those mentioned would be fine and would run XBMC + whatever else pretty much the same. It's a matter of personal preference.

If that's all your using it for I'd probably go with openelec.

Otherwise ubuntu simply because that has most guides for installing and getting hdmi audio working etc etc.
