so recently got back to using usenet.

been testing out sabnzbd, sonarr and couch potato and it seems a good set up.

So i'm looking to set up a box that can sit plugged into the router and download everything at night while I'm in work and everyone else is in bed.

also would like it to be able to stream the downloaded videos to my pc, the living room tv (currently has a amazon firestick in it but could change if needed), my phone and my tablet (galaxy tab4).

im guessing i'll be needing a new dual or triband wireless router (wires aren't a possibility sadly, at least for now till i move house)

so im not too sure whats needed specs wise to do this though, does it need to be a reasonably powerful system or not to stream the media?

on hand i've got an old ATX mobo, an e2200 and i think about 4gb of some old ram.

guessing most of that might not be useful for anything other than downloading.

so main requirements would be for it to be as silent/quiet as possible, use as little power as possible (as it will be always on) and be able to store a lot of files.

would also like to be able to control it from my pc/phone i have a VPN as part of my usenet package so guessing that will help there. because it wont have a screen and will be out of the way.

So tl:dr

hardware specs
router recommendation
software to install on firestick/tablet/phone to stream media to them (guessing kodi?)
software to control sanbzd/sonarr/coutchpotato remotley from pc/phone

Sorry for the massive ask :p

try it and see time, put your old hardware together,+ usb stick 1 hdd,
xpenolgy and dsm (see server and networking section of forum) , you configure via browser(it seems to do sabnzbd, sonarr and couch potato )
playback via kodi , or file explorer and a media viewer dependent upon device

and be able to store a lot of files - how many sata ports are available how big hdds can you afford.

most routers have enough wifi bandwidth to run sd streaming

cool, i was hoping this would be the case.

its just i read that streaming to tablets/phones was a strain on the server as it had to encode stuff for the different screen sizes. although this may have been ******** :p

Yeah just read back it was plex that was the power requirement.

Might set up the old stuff to download all the back files for now and look for deals for building a plex server over the Christmas period
