Hi,
Im pondering the idea of upgrading my media server.
Its currently a dual core 'core' based Pentium chip, cant remember the exact code, 2.0Ghz. 2Gb ram, 2x 1Tb HDDs in a mirrored array running on a nVidia chipset.
I'd like to upgrade it to 3x 2Tb drives in a RAID 5 array.
What im wondering is, with the RAID set at the bios level on this nVidia chipset, would i technically be able to image from one set of drives to the other, and have the nVidia software itself automatically pick up its now as RAID5, with windows detecting the extra storage space?
Or would i have to reinstall windows?
Additionally, is 2Gb of RAM enough, baring in mind the system copes perfectly well with re-encoding on the fly 1080p video for my PS3? This is based on the knowledge that nVidia RAID is processed on the CPU rather than its own XOR chip.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
