I've read quite a few threads on here about people using old hardware and setting up a media server. I'm considering buying a macbook in the near future and my trusty shuttle sn41g2 will be surplus to requirements. As the macbook has limited hard drive space I am considering turning my shuttle into a media server which can also stream to my xbox which it is currently doing. I have been considering ubuntu server as the operating system and using samba for filesharing but I am unsure as to the compatability between linux and osx filesystems. What file system would I use to ensure I could store HD content (over 4gb) and still write/read to the drive from osx so that I could backup my essential files? As I understand, this may be slightly tricky. Would I be best just sticking with windows ntfs for streaming video and having a seperate osx formatted external drive for backup?
