Media storage - best work around for this

Essentially I need to have a hard drive that can act as a NAS via an ethernet connection but also be connected to a Kodi box to allow for direct (as opposed to network) reading of media files. What is the best way to achieve such functionality?

You can get some tv boxes with space for a hard drive in them but they are expensive i think. other than that your kodi wil be connecting to the lan network anyhow ?so jsut get a nas box.

I use plex/xplay on my tv and a 2 bay nas box connected to my network i dont have any probs streaming 4k ultra hd content.
