Media Streaming

I currently use my Xbox 360 to watch movies, listen to music that is held on my PC.

I find this to be slow and frustrating at times. (HD 1080i wont play well at all)

Is there anything you guys would recommend to either speed this process up or replace and achieve the same result ?

so i could just build a cheap small pc and run it though that?

so an amdx2 2.9ghz 2ddr3 ram would just need a cheapish graphics card adding and away i go?

How would i go about using files form another pc (one in the bedroom is the main pc)

Well i've just looked at the XBMC on my main system and it looks awesome and is nice and smooth to use.

The only trouble is getting the files from the other pc.
How would i go about this without having to copy them all?

if i was to use his card what would i do for the sound as this only carries pictures?

How would i connect sound to the tv?

Me pc is connected via ethnet to my router up stairs and my xbox is connected wirelessly to the router from down stairs.

I'm currently using the white netgear Router from virgin media.

I believe the xbox receives the info via the Internet I was hoping it might be faster to share the info via a network as they are both connected to the same Router.

The "new" pc and xbox sit directly below where the router is in the bedroom, so would a better router help? As I currently get 3/5 bars of signal on the xbox.

Ethernet cable it is then :-)

So how do I go about sharing the info on the 2 pc's?
Would they both need the same operating systems or is there another way ?

The only trouble is, my g/f had a play on xbmc last night and she wants that on the tv and to be able to use it for web browsing.

Plus I already have most parts to build a nice little pc for it.
