I fancy playing they this once more what's the recommended mod? Is it still stainless steel or broken crescent?

You need to have the Kingdoms addon though, think that's part of the gold edition though.

I believe somewhere on the Total War forums there's a realy good mod I remember that converted the game to English Civil War. Love a bit of Cavaliers and Roundheads

I have always been meaning to place but never got round to it, is it still good for someone who doesn't have that much interest in Lord of the Rings.

I'll be honest I downloaded it but never got around to trying it, I'm holding out for Rome 2 now
