I've installed Media Portal onto my htpc, it does look a much better front end than Media Centre. I can't get .flac files to play though. They work in Windows itself, winamp etc. Flac files do appear in Media Portal music browser but when I select the file nothing comes from the speakers. 
also how do I get Media Portal to load up when I press the "media centre" button on the remote? This loads up the MC front end.
edit sorted the flac playback in media portal (and media player classic) need to install ogg/flac direct show filters.

also to get winamp plugin to work in media portal I had to enable the winamp plugin, then add ".flac," filename options in media portal winamp plugin configuration.
