Medieval 2 slowdowns

Ever since I have gone back to xp I've had problems with random graphics slowdowns. In Medieval 2 the actual battles run smooth at full detail but the campaign map is very laggy. I dont get it. on other games I have problems where I shouldnt too. Is there a fix? My spec is in sig

It is on mine at times m8.
7950 gt ko 512 mbs gfx card
4400x2 cpu
1.5 gig of ram.
Try turning all shadows off should help a lot.

Same here. It's fine when my camera is still, but when moving the camera it lags

When you say ever since you went back to XP it has been laggy what do you mean? Did you try Vista? Was performance worse in it? Was Xp performace better on your old pre-vista installation of XP? If it was I would imagine it is a driver issue or you having settings turned higher than you used to.

Are you running all the latest XP drivers? Have you defragged your c:\ and drive your swap file is located since re-installng XP? Did the installation go smoothly?

I had that when i had processes in the background, namely the AVG virus scanner. Otherwise its fine and i have a terrible rig compared to u lot 3500+, 6800GT, 2Gb RAM, and im on xp pro btw

Jim5000: it worked fine under vista, on my previouse setup of amd 3000 and x800pro, this is a freesh install and the hd is about 1/10th full, so defragging wont help. All drivers are up to date. But yah its jsut on the 2d stratergy map bit. main battles are very smooth.
