I know it's been out for a while but being someone who bought Medieval I and then didn't even install it I was shocked at how good Medieval II was when I finally bought it and actually bothered playing it.

Great fun, hoping to play it at a LAN weekend in a month or so with some mates. Does anyone have any tips for playing it or have any recommended mods for it? :p

Stainless steel is the mod most people use though i find it makes the game very easy. Personally i prefer Lands to Conquere for the sheer difficulty.

The english are the easiest nation to learn with, archer units make a big difference in the overall game. If you want to learn properly start by playing on hard/hard and rack the difficulty up quickly.

Other tips: Always try to outflank the cpu i.e. cavalary and some footshoulders around the sides and backs. Archers to weaken the centre units and some heavy infantary to the centre. Be careful in Online with these tactics as most people will have spears/heavy infantary on the sides and will be be expecting these tactics.

i have installed this numerous times with latest patch but after a while my game kind of hangs.

ie when waiting for cpu to take its turns it just stops I can move around map although I have no pointer as such and i can open up the information windows

Anyone have an idea as to why I enjoy playing but i can't seem to get the campaign to play past turn 16-20 :(

memory leak?

Tried playing it with your AV software turned off? completely unrelated probably but I had problem with half-life when it was initially released which oddly enough ended up being my bloody AV software :p

Anything in the event log?

this game is worth buying a PC for, amazing gameplay , great depth and a thriving community ... its one of the only games i would consider giving 10/10

also the new expansion is due out soon ' Kingdoms ' :=-

small pictures dont do it justice ...

I know when i tried installing a no-cd patch the game went to pot as if it was a way of the devolopers stopping pirated copies of the game.

NB i have ever TW game full retail just get fed up with CD changing

very tempted with this.

not really playing wow now so have spare time !

actually got back into MTW : VI expansion last week.

keeping an eye on the best price for MTW 2 from various places.

for some reason i never took to rome and did not play it a lot so was unsure about buying this when it was released.

Kheldar this game has more or less replaced my usual gaming on MMORPGs now I don't have time for it. Plus it's nice to have a game you can pause or go AFK from without worrying about someone killing you ;)

It's an ace game, visuals are quite immense and I even enjoy the sound effects. Last night was the first time I'd used catapults and I was almost cheering when I killed the eneny general by mistake.. I mean by skill! :D

The only problem I have is I get far too attached to certain generals in the game and all too often they've died in combat or just got too damn old and died too quickly!!

yeah its an awesome game, been a while since i last played it.

as far as mods go i was keeping my eye on the total realism mod for it as this was very popular for rome total war.

Not sure of the status of the mod now though

Great game, played through it I don't know how many times yet... If you want to play another faction other than England google it and you'll be able to unlock all the factions without having to defeat them in campaign first.

If you're playing England use the archer stakes to the fullest, and fill the gaps in with spearmen. Had one of my best fights against Spain last night in a very hilly area, using the spikes and spearmen, and the fact that spain had to walk up a very narrow ravine to get to me, my longbows and yeomen archers had a field day.

I'd also suggest cranking up the difficulty in battle mode at least. Once you get the hang of the game a single unit of knights can win a battle by outflanking and charging from the rear, one unit routs then the whole enemy army routs in a cascading effect.

Don't let them get into combat then! :p

Best place for a general is right behind the main infantry lines. Generals give a boost to morale, making your units harder to route, and the death of a general makes your troops more succeptible to routing. If things get hairy swing them around the back and charge.

It's a great game - one of the best modifications for it to date is The Long Road - it expands the original map, adds new factions/graphics and adds an RPG element to it. It also rebalances unit stats and tries to make the game more realistic. I'll take some screenshots of my latest campaign as the Scotts.

OO i was gona get that mod ages ago! I stoped playing the game as some amazing mods were being developed. Might just go check them out now :P

I kinda get bored with this game. I think year its amazing then it just seems to go through the same thing every time and if i loss a battle i just reload which defeats the object because i always win then.

Kingdoms is going to be making it so its possible to play the campain map online!!!!!!!!

:)

I never find it tedious strangely - and with The Long Road the campaign is 900 turns which should equal 4 turns per year. You have to play the game slowly and think out your tactics otherwise if you play it like you play the other mods you'll soon end up in the brown stuff. It pays to take stock ;)

Here's a little screenie of a Scottish heavy cavalry charge on an attacking Egyptian army.. You can just make out the lances forming the line. It was a complete success - my elite guard flattened the enemy in that one charge! Over 300 men surrendered (and were promptly executed) :D

You can make out the new dynamic weather in that screenshot too - its great.

hey could you post a screenie of the long road campagin map? Apprently its a lot bigger.

What patch does it need?

Of course. The map is much improved. To play it you simply need to download the installer which you can find here :- http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=98729

It might be worth holding on for a week or two, as they are releasing version 2.1 soon. But if you can't wait, 2.0 is excellent - although remember these are betas.
