Is there any special super duper method of actually applying the three patches to this game?

I have downloaded:

1.1
1.2
1.3

And every time I apply those patches in sequence obviously.. the game fails to load. I can see the load screen for a split second before the screen goes blank and I get the games hour glass for ever until I hit a key and it drops to desktop. This is the third time I have A) Uninstalled the game and B) downloaded the patches.

Several of my mates all say they had no problems. For me patch 1.3 comes up asking for install disc/path for some readme.txt then promptly stuffs up the game install leaving it unplayable.

Please help me before I shred the disc and nut my TFT.

Sega blow severely. That’s without going into the silly size of the patches combined. The different manner in which the patches were released to be installed is hardly proffesional either.

1.3 is only needed if you play MP against people who have Kingdoms. Unfortunately there are still bugs left in SP..try it with just 1.2 and report back :)

I just play it at 1.00 and have no real problems, only the bug that you can edit a city's que by disabling automatization without an officer.

That is exactly what I am trying to get rid of.. its ruining my game, as I play Scotland and struggle to get people to mainland Europe to control what I recruit.

Can i disable auto manage without an officer/family member/king in version 1.0?

I also find the crusade very buggy, even when leaving immediately my whole army deserts before I get to Jerusalem. (by foot through mainland europe, or on boats into the Mediterranean)

I find 1.0 increadibly buggy, as well as my armies under AI control being beaten by an army a 1/4 of its size just because the premise of fighting on two fronts seems to be well beyond that of the AI/Game programming?

Its buggy as hell for me.

My friends just say to fight every battle on the ground, but I shouldn't have to when its just scraps of men running around.. Them coming from three or four directions means complete rout if you let the AI take over, thats with a well rounded army. :(

Thanks for the responses guys! Too late to re-install now, will do so after work tomorrow and try up to 1.2.

Erm, don't use the exploit? It's exactly what you want, in 1.0 you can manage cities without a family member, as it's a bug, but you can just restrain yourself from using it. Just detick the 2 buttons to make buildings and units automatically in a city, and you can control what it should build, regardless if there's a family member.

You have to walk/go directly to Jerusalem, just don't add your army as a crusade army until they're around spain.

What do you make? Militia spearmen? As my mix of demounted knights, knights hospitallers and yeomen archers kill armies twice the size when automated.

I find that hard to believe, I always use automatic battles, and when the odds are any higher that 1:1 I nearly always win.

Right got it sorted, finally realized to uncheck those buttons to create what you like. Thanks.

You and the developers may think it to be a bug, but I would find it too hard without being able to choose my own contructions. I'm not coming looking for Civ4 although I found it hard using only family members. I tend to play Scotland.. keeping a regular supply of Scottish Royal Family blood in far flung places like Jerusalem can be a nightmare ( my last game I held that, gaza strip and the city I would call Jaffa for 200 turns from the off). Perhaps when I get to your level of leetness I will patch it up and play then! :p

I try for longbow/highland archers, any mounted units I can (scotland remember), dismounted knights/highland nobles.

The stack attacks - having restarted again I know for sure my problems are coming from the East, mainly Timurid and Mongol Hoards. Its the Timurid army that is kicking me about. I can deal with Mongol horse attacks, its the Timurid cannon firing (LOL?) elephants.. I've realised already that they can turn on their own army and don't like gunpowder but..

how would you fight a 1000 man heavy force backed up with Cannon elephants? What makeup would you use?

I had 8 armies just like that turn up outside Jerusalem at once :( :(

I just ignore Jerusalem & Mongol&Timurids atm, I'm at war with the pope anyway :

I'm at war with all my neighbors, or well, now everyone except for the mongols, timurids, aztecs and some other eastern country... The Hungarians are kicking my arse although im kicking the popes arse atm :D.

Its not a case of ignoring them, they then turned up after, to what used to be Dannish territory and happily started setting about me in the east of europe!! bah! I need to outnumber them 2-1 to chase them off, easier said than done raising 16 armies. It financially ruins me! (installing Kingdoms atm, which is probably only going to make my progress worse!)

PS I hate the Pope, he's a backstabbing lunatic in most cases.

Bad luck, also have to install kingdoms still myself :p.

I know, hence I'm one city away from Rome and when I take it, I'll make sure to exterminate the population :D.

Took me weeks to take the entire world, Timurids almost had me, pushed me back to spain, managed to pull some forces back from africa (St John Knights + Knights Templar) to eventually destroy them.

Remember I won heroically, 4 sets of peasants vs an entire army, packed them all in the gate, they foolishly attacked with king cavalry, took him down within a few minutes, the rest started running off.

It was a important town as well, no army was near and would have give them a base in the middle of europe.

hahahaha @ cannon elephants. I don't remember facing those bad boys!

That's the bad boys that are giving me headaches! About the same number of elephant too! :p

they just run into squads of guys people flying about!

Savage

Whenever I face elephants in RTW my first priority is to scare them; fighting them directly is useless. They badly dent morale and they obviously rip through lines like nothing. Fire is the best for this in RTW so I think you need to bulk up on gunpowder troops dude.

The first one or two patches (don't know which) improve the game's performance and AI greatly. I strongly recommend updating if some of you haven't already.

if possible you need archers that can lay wooden stakes. More importantly you need the artiary that fires loads of bullets, theres two types and if you cant make them your self get them as mercenarys.

^ Jack.. its longbow men with the stakes in the ground... cheers I will try for cannon, longbow and riflemen.

Guys I need your help again... I bought Kingdoms on steam yesterday it downloaded fine (7 hours!!). However when I try to start the game i get the steam 'game start up' dialogue box then it just cancels itself and disappears!?

Please help! I was looking forward to a game of it this weekend!

:( :(

cannons are ok m8, but they dont kill enough elephants, you want the ones that fire a spread of bullets, sry cant remember the name, or you can recruit the rocket guys, again forgotten the name :P They kill the elephants in one hit and as they have such a wide area of attack they take out 3-5 at a time. You just need some thing to protect them like stakes. Infantry are pointless but you will need some to stop horses etc, ideally as heavy as possible. If you are the english it should be pritty easy as long as you always wait for them to attack you, pushing towards them in the field is a death sentence.

Have you tried logging out of steam mate? If that doesn't work, try deleting ClientRegistry.blob in the Steam directory. A default one will be created when you open steam again. This used to fix a lot of similar issues in Steam's early days. Make a back-up before you do though.
