Medieval 2 Demo - Anyone played it?

I thought the graphical improvements deserve merit, but there really isn't a lot different from the rest of the series until the full game is available to try.

On a side note, I thought my 7900 GTO would handle anything at 4x/16x, all settings maxed, but this is the first game to prove otherwise. :(

AT 1680x1050, I need to turn all AA off for it to be playable. Maybe time to get SLi. :D

Its just the demo, they said they havnt optimised it yet so most people systems no matter how good struggle abit.

I have a 5500fx so imagine what i had to put up with :p

The game will be much smoother :) if not ill cry

Played it a week or so ago. Was pretty much what I expected but nothing new combat-wise, at least not in the demo. Always been a fan of the Total war series so I've had the game on pre-order about a month now. Demo just confirmed for me that it was going to be a good purchase.

Demo ran fine maxed with my rig @ 1920x1200 on a 24" wide screen. I guess it might struggle with some of the larger battles mind...

Is that with AA & AF maxed at 4xAA and 16xAF, all settings on high and extreme where possible?

I don't know exact numbers as I used the settings via in game menus which if memory servers are like high low medium etc. (maybe there's a full setting too, not got it installed atm).

So whatever the max settings are in game that's what I was using. I never bother with card setting via control panel etc.

I'll double check when full game arrives and report back, (due out on the 10th of this month I believe).

It seems the same gameplay wise to me :( But then again gameplay was always quite fun in the original so no real problems there!

So long as they've fully fixed that annoying bug where Cavelry cant catch up with troops, or attack one soldier then run away and charge back again I'll be happy!

I run everything on MAX and have no issues on an X1900XT and A64 3200 with 2GB RAM. I'm sure larger battles will soon stop that from happening however! The demo battles are quite small. Then again im only at 1280x1024 as only have a 17" TFT

So, any thoughts on the game?

I'm thinking of buying the Saitek Pro Gamer Unit to combat the insane amount of units available now. Will look pleasing to the eye runnin' alongside my Eclipse too. :D

I have the demo, maxed it out and played it, was nice and smooth and a nice game. I have a 7900 GTO, so I didn't have a problem.

The game has a lot more to consider with the massive ammount of troops to control, its good though.

Well mixed feelings at the minute...

My biggest disappointment was that there is no mini mulitplayer campaign that was hinted at by the developers during an interview. This was the one new feature I was really looking forward to and what people have been asking for since the very first of the Total War series.

The same old bugs are still in the game for example you send your knights to cut down a routing unit fleeing from the battle field and a lot of the time they escort them to the edge of the map rather than kill them.

The pope missions can be impossible to complete at times, though some are straight forward. I was also give the same mission over and over again dispite completeing second time of asking.

There doesn't seem to be anyawy to add CPU players to custom multiplayer battles which has always been an option in the past. There are CPU players in the historical battles and the senarios.

The good news is that the game runs very well. I'd imagine even a modest system would manage handle this fine and still look good. Speaking of graphics it really does look the dogs... Only down side is I spend so much time zooming in to see all the cool effects that I never notice the important stuff like two units of knights kicking the cr@p out of my general lol.

In sort this isn't worth full price rrp of £35. There isn't enough new stuff, even some features are missing... If you can get it online for £25 or less AND your a big fan of the TW series then ok. Knowing what I know now I'd have waited for the price to come down to under £20.

Don't get me wrong it is a GREAT game and if your new to the TW series it's worth every penny. On the other hand, if you already have/play Rome TW then I consider this more of a graphical upgrade and from that point of view NOT worth the asking price...

Can someone fix the misspelling of the thread title please? I thought this was going to be about those "MedEvil" platformers:D
I tried, but with no luck. :(

I have 7600gt sli, playing in 1440x900, with grass set to low, low vegetation and medium building detail its great. Oh and 4x anti aliasing

Oh and another game with horrid vaseline smeared "depth of field" effects, thats the major performance kill in the game, luckily theres an option to turn them off completely unlike in graw where some annoying blurriness remains in the distance

I got this played it most of the weekend.

I got abit annoyed once I discovered the Americas in that the Aztecs took some serious pounding and I was disappointed in the map layout of a piece of america. The Aztecs were located Mexico way not near greenland (dam I want realism). I also discovered some buildings in the Aztec city are clippable :( my cavalry ran straight through a chunk of them in persuit of some pesky Jaguar Warriors.

Anyhow I have conquered France, pushed the Danes back to Russia, lost Jerusalem to the Mongol hoard and the later hoards (you'll see) and battered the Sicilians to near extinction. Oh and I have been excommunicated by the bloody pope loads of times :)
