Hello,

I recently decided to purchase a 20" widescreen monitor to replace the TV that I was using. I also had to purchase a DVI-VGA adapter as my video card did not have a VGA input (6870HD).

Having plugged in the new monitor and then set the resolution to the maximum (1600x900), this is the result I am getting...

The desktop does not clearly fit. The Monitor OSD information tab states that is is running at 1280x960 and not the 1600x900 that I set within Windows.

I don't know what I can do to fix this, can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

Ignore the second display, I'm no longer using it. I was seeing if I could fix it with the second monitor at the time but failed.

The native resolution of the new monitor is meant to be 1600x900, as I already stated. Clearly, the desktop does not fit the monitor.

I just noticed that the monitor is also recognised as a CRT monitor :S

Perhaps because you're using VGA?

Try disconnecting any other monitors.

Restart the PC.

Run Windows update to see if there's a driver for your monitor.

Try detecting displays again in the AMD Control Centre.

You could try uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics drivers.

I have no other choice to use VGA, the monitor only has an VGA input. I have to use a DVI to VGA adapter from the video card.

I have already once tried re-installing the video drivers. I will try windows update but I doubt that will have any effect.

I took out my video card and plugged the monitor straight onto the on board VGA and the problem doesn't exist. 1600x900 sits fine. Can I now assume the problem lies with the GPU or DVI/VGA adapter?
