Hi, I am thinking of purchasing the Medusa 5.1 Pro gaming headset edition. I was thinking if any of you guys have this headset and I would love to hear your input regarding this headset, thanks.

i did have the headset (older version), lasted about 5 months then died :( . I don't know what changes they've made to improve them since, as when i had mine they were ok but a bit too fiddly. Tbh the whole surround sound headset thing seems a bit pointless to me, i'm far happier with my newer headset(sennheiser hd 555).

i've got an older version and think the sound quality is great. the surround sound can be tricky to set up but worth it imo. i like the fact that the amp provides a junction box and you can choose between your normal speakers or headset.
they're really comfy and good value for money.

The quality just isn't that great...and the 5.1 sound isn't really an improvement in comparison to a nice stereo headset.

I did some looking into on headsets to find the best for the $ with a long cord and I decided on the Sennheiser HD205...they are incredible. very strong, clear bass, crystal highs...excellent sound reproduction and gaming is just superb

I owned the Zalman 5.1 to start with, was not happy, bought the Medusa 5.1, annoying buzzing from its amp, then the plastic part holding the left earpiece broke when I dropped them, bought another Medusa 5.1, same buzzing noise and this time the same plastic part holding one of the ear pieces broke again.

Also, I was really fooling myself about 5.1 qualities with headphones, it just doesnt work properly no matter how much you try to set them up.

I'm going to buy some quality Sennheiser phones next.

medusa are toss, the build quality on my pair was crap. flimsy plastic bits and the mic broke.

get some realy headphones like Sennheiser (even the cheap ones) i got some for £17.99 and there way better

I have Medusas. A few tips - the centre and sub channels are swapped compared to some soundcards. Either change the settings in your soundcard or use the connection cables that come with the medusa to swap them. The buzzing sound can be got rig of by using the inline controls on the cable - turn them downhalf a notch and turn up the amp.

The sound quality is good for gaming and dvds. Not quite up there with Sennheisers for music. Positioning's better than any simulated surround via stereo I've heard (but I've not tried X-FI). The sound field sounds generally 'wide' to me, in that I can tell whether stuff is supposed to be in front or behind but it never sounds directly in front or to the rear - always like it's slightly to the side. I suspect that, as everyone's ears are different, surround headphones will work well for some people but not for others. Simulated surround over stereo is likely to give a more consistent impression between different users.

Sound quality's better than my Creative Digital 5700s but not quite up there with my home HiFi (Seperates with Sony amp and B&W speakers).

The only really anoying thing about them is the electromagnetic sheilding on the amp is poor to non-existant. I get horrible bleeping whenever my mobile phone goes off and have had to move it at least 2m from my wireless router. Might start a topic on how to solve that at some point...

they are a bit pricey but a decent product imo.

the original ones i had, i prefer to the newer pro gamer edition. the volume control was via an amp and the wire was longer.
sadly that version seems discontinued.

the pro gamer one still has a very long lead though, the only issue i have with it is when i want to watch movies from the pc onto the tv while sitting on the settee.
the volume control is now by way of a plastic remote on the wire.
tbh, i find this feels and looks a little cheap and lets the product down.
the sliders on it are also easy to move by accident if it rubs against you.
it also has a "vibrate" volume slider, which i find seems to make little to no difference at all to anything, with the possible exception to a slight buzz at higher volumes. so i have that down to the 0.

however, the sound is good, pretty loud and clear.
the surround seems to work fairly well and is of real help in online games.
the actual head piece takes a little getting used to, at first it felt too small for me but that soon passed. they are very comfortable and soft.

ultimately, my issue with cable length is no big deal and the remote is adequate and so as the sound is good i would still recommend

Forgot to say - apart from the problem mentioned above - I would recommend them to anyone. The build quality isn't that bad. Much better than several 'name brand' headphones I've seen. I don't think I'd go back to stereo phones for gaming but I'd rather use a decent set of surround speakers (just I'm in a terraced house and the neighbours / wife might not appreciate the noise).

Their poor,

i had a pair,

i have now switched to creative hs600 better sound and better mic.

the medusa's sounded tinny, were a pain in the butt to setup, and when setup sometimes rattled.

I have found 5.1 headsets to be pretty poor really unless your will to spend quite a lot of money

i have some sennheisers that set me back £20, my mate has some 5.1 headphones that cost him upwards of £50, and the only difference is that his are louder.

i have realtek hd audio built in my mobo, and i can tell when someones shooting me in game from any direction, when others cant. and these are just stereo headphones.

get some sennheisers that are the same price as medusas, there will be a world of difference.

Im looking to replace mine now as the right ear has snaped just on the bit that holds the ear bit to the adjustable size thing.... most anoying only lasted 18 months, Im torn between getting another pair, and getting some Seinheinzers, but I value suround sound in games so Dunno if its worth getting good stereo headphones...

Owned both the Zalmans and the Medusas (/w amp version). Poor surround sound on both. Terrible sound quality on the Zalmans. Bad sound quality on the Medusas. They both look and feel like cheap junk as well.

I have just ordered some HD555's from america, so they should be here within a week or two. I have been reading a lot into the whole headphone thing and it seems a decent set of stereo headphones are better than the "surround sound" gaming ones anyday?
