I have an official Sega PAL scart lead for better picture and sound however there is sound but no picture. Doing a bit of googling the Sega model 3085 requires a bit of modifitcation to work as it is for French RGB megadrives and uses a different standard

So here is what needs to be done if anyone else has the same problem with a Model 3085 Sega RGB cable.

Cut the (+) connector one the left side of the board and connect it to the SINC on the other side (also cut).

And presto. Have a really nice RGB picture.

I'm not sure why the composite was screwed up and if it is some kind of French Secam standard peculiarity. But bypassing the circuit board did the trick.

The problem is that I cannot really see what has been done there. Does it involve cutting the purple wire on the left with the + next to it and joining it with another wire to the sinc purple wire on the right? I guess this just requires solder and another piece of wire?

Another thread on a more detailed mod, but in Frensh.

Its hard to make out as wires are covering some of the labels of each point but looking at it left side purple (+) to right side purple (SINC).

I would unsolder each wire instead of cutting just in case you need to re-wire back to original and use a wire to join those two wires.

You might find that with this method, you will get jail-bars due to how the Megadrive Video encoder chip is laid out and the composite line is close to the blue line introducing noise.

On mine I completely disabled composite video and went for pure sync, but that includes rewiring the din plug and adding a resistor and a capacitor to the sync line inside the machine.

Are you connecting the MD to a CRT or through something like a Framemeister?

Thanks. Im just connecting it to an LG plasma flatscreen tv.
I have bought a scart > din cable, unofficial but without the box fir £4 delivered. It sounds like it would not be worth the effort modding it. Will the unofficial ones not provide as good a picture or sound as official?
To be hobest RF looks alright to me! Retro, as it was meant to look.

It all depends if its wired up for RGB or just composite.

LoL i'll pretend to ignore that! ;):D Winds me up when people say its they ways its meant to look"

What is the difference between RGB and just composite? I might have a go at unsoldering the wires and joining them together.
What sort of wire is needed to join them? Will any bit of wire do?

Composite is all Colour signals and sync down one cable (Normally yellow), RGB is All signals separated giving a clearer sharper picture.

Any bit of wire will do to connect them. Maybe a bit of wire off an old unused fan will do.

I unsoldered the 2 purple wires and connected them with a piece of wire from an old fan splitter.

Works perfectly with great colours and it only took a few minutes. I will give it a full test so see if there is any buzzing or anything after the football.

No stereo audio but im sure this will be the next thing I look into. Having said that I do not want to modify the console itself in any way.

A unofficial scart lead with a stereo audio connector is £12 delivered - https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk...a-genesis-1-stereo-rgb-av-scart-cable-tv-lead

I am sceptical about un-official adapters and cables though so will probably stick with the modded sega one that now works :)
