Megadrive modem

I've searching around the net looking for that the EXT socket was for on the first batch of the original Megadrives was for. I read Sega released a modem which connected there. Was the Modem only ever released in the US an Japan? I can never remember seeing anything like that back in the day.

i think if anything it may have been released in Japan, probably as a similar thing to the SNES Satellite thing (Satellaview according to Wiki) Ninty released over there with the idea of downloading games using it
