megaflow water pressure less than usual.

Hi I've noticed the pressure coming out for both hot and cold water supplies upstairs (megaflow is on ground floor) has reduced a bit over time.

I thought that it could be the mains pressure that was less, so I turned the stop clock open more if that makes sense that did not help much but I noticed that the pressure in the shower upstairs and the taps is somewhat reduced than compared to in January when the system was installed.

Also if someone is using the shower upstairs, the water pressure downstairs is somewhat reduced. I don't think this is normal, is it? I'm pretty sure 6 months ago that this would not happen.

what could be causing this issue? Any ideas? Nothing serious I hope!

If as you say the pressure has dropped both on the cold taps and the hot taps, then it has to be a cold supply pressure issue. Re-Pressurizing the Megoflow will make no difference.

It is two issues

- upstairs wc taps poor flow + shower
- using two outlets at the same time yields poor pressure

Whatnwill make a difference?
Think repressuring the system like mentioned by other person is worthbtrying

I saw a youtube video where the water valve is shut off, the closest hot water tap is ran then the pressure release valve is opened for 20 mins or so
Is that repressuring the megaflow??

To repeat what kitfit1 said above, if your cold water has also reduced in pressure, it is not your megaflo!

Do you have any taps after your stopcock but before your pressure reducing valve? Check the pressure on there as it may indicate a problem with the valve. They have a strainer which periodically needs to be checked and cleaned. This could be restricting flow. Or it could just be faulty and need replacing.

Failing that, it may just be a drop in pressure/flow on your incoming main.

Yes there are lots of valves down there
Provide pics later
It might need cleaning

Im guessing the whole valve needs to be taken off and cleaned out?

Surely Cant be faulty just got the damn parts new 11 months ago

If someone is washing the dishes downstairs and I am trying to have a shower upstairs surely the pressure of the water from a megaflow is not dramatically reduced?

Im sure back in the earlier part of the year
One could use two showers and wash dishes in sink for the pressure to be pretty decent everywhere
What u all reckon?

This is what a megaflo pressure reducing valve looks like (though there are different types, and some are combi valves with a pressure relief valve also attached):

With the water turned off and pipework drained (your HW tank should have an isolating valve, otherwise it will need draining too), you can unscrew the top and inside is a strainer which can be taken out and cleaned of debris.

I'd advise a professional do this if you are at all unsure. And before doing any of this, isolate the problem by following my previous post to see if you can check the water pressure before this valve comes into the equation.

Incoming main is that new blue plastic pipe
Surely that cant be a problem

If the pressure / flow at street level is reduced, then it doesn't matter what pipe you have. There could also be restriction in the mains pipe running from the street boundary to your property. There's a number of possibilities - you need to work back from the house to try and identify the problem.

Repressurising the megaflow expansion vessel won't help you incoming water pressure, its there to allow for expansion of the water in the system when the water is heated in the tank (if its lost pressure you will likely have water coming out of the pressure relief on the tank). If both your hot and cold taps have reduced flow this will have something to do with your incoming supply as has been said.

Thanks for the reply guys

I tried that repressuring but as you all said didnt make much difference except perhaps downstairs pressure slightly better.

However Upstairs pressure isnt what it used to be. If i turn the shower on then the taps slow down and vice versa

Fezster and dandle thanks
Im going to get a pro in As not confident draining the system myself

How much should i be looking at to get this fixed?
Still have a warranty on the megaflow i might ring and ask them too

I'm not trying to be funny here or anything like that psd99, but have you read the replies to your thread ? Your problem is almost certainly the incoming mains pressure and has nothing at all to do with your Magaflow.

You need to be talking with your water company and peeps next door to you to see if the water pressure has dropped for any reason. There could be a mains leak a few hundreds yards from your house that nobody knows anything about.

It feels like the problem is somewhere between the ground floor and the first floor

Downstairs the pressure is ok so that would rule out a problem with the water coming into the property no?

Upstairs now the issue feels intermittent
Sometimes it is ok
Other times it just is so poor! Very much hit and miss.

Will ring the plumber up to discuss this. Do let us know your thoughts and feelings towards this issue

OK........................then suddenly downstairs is ok ?

You really need to be very very specific if you want a proper answer here. You will also have to very specific to any plumber that comes to visit.
No one, even when they are in your house can give you an answer if you are only giving them 25% of the information.
