Megahalems Bending?

Really wingzero30! what temps should I be expecting?

Yeah scubes, have to agree, they are dealing with the problem excellently!!

For gaming temps should normally be between 45C - 55C seeing as Megahalems is an excellent cooler. I have Thermalright IFX-14 with 2 vipers and while gaming, coretemps never go above 55C on the hottest core of my Q6600.

Gaming is not as intensive as Prime95 or Intel Burn Test (IBT). Your temps for black ops are a reflection of prime or IBT temps

Temps also depend on number of factors such as case cooling, any restrictions to airflow in the case, how many case fans etc.

Edit: Did you have fan attached to megahalems? If not then passive cooling may explain the high temps you are getting with black ops.

Mine arrived like this:

After some careful bending wearing gardening gloves I managed to get it roughly square:

Took quite a bit of force to bend it just a few mm, that cooler of yours has had a real beating somehow.

PS I didn't get mine from OCUK (they were OOS on the fans I wanted).

Still cant get the cpu fan of 1800rpm. Looked inside again last night and noticed the cable for the fan was barely in the board connection. I pushed it in hoping that maybe this was what the problem was. Unfortunately no :( with the cable being loose and the cooler being bent I'm beginning to wonder if the delivery company played football with my system before they dropped it off. Cant help but wonder what other damage has been done :(

this seems to be sorted out now

courier damage is one of those things that we can never totally stamp out.
whilst we do our best to ensure that all of our systems leave us in a quality controlled manner, there are occasions that things like this happen unfortunately.

its always easy enough to sort out though :)

Yeah thanks again Rich for sorting things out for me so quickly and professionally! Excellent customer service all round!
Perhaps though you could help me with the one question I still havent had an answer to. Should the CPU fan be controlling at a slower speed and should I be able to slow it down?

Tell me about it, I sold a skulltrail system to someone and the courier must have dropped it slight dent on case exactly where psu was system powered up but the psu killed the motherboard and another he tested it on!

One day couriers will have higher standards!

Oh well. I think I have eventually found the solution to my problem. It seems as though Asus dont enable voltage speed control on the cpu fan header (even though it is possible) It seems I have to put the cpu fan into another fan header to get any sort of speed control  :( On this point Asus have severely dropped the ball, shame on you Asus!!! if you have a problem, make it known in the customer support section of the forums where i will assist you.
this user did and his issue was resolved in a timely manner.

if you have nothing to say to add to the thread then why bother posting?

negative attitude for the sake of trashing someones thread will not be tolerated

Thanks for your help! Thats the replacement megahalem fitted. I also bought the sharkoon SE fan so I could get pwm control for the cpu and moved the original sharkoon to the back of the case as an exhaust fan. All fans are now controllable and the system is MUCH quieter. Plus as a bonus its running 3-4 degrees cooler which is great considering how much slower the fans are running! I'm guessing adding an exhaust fan must have helped with that! The only annoyance now is the PC beeps on start up because the cpu fan is only spinning at 350rpm!!! But I can live with that :D

Yeah I get the one beep then a few seconds later I get a message saying CPU fan failure and 4 beeps!! Then I just press F1 to continue. I disconnected the little beep speaker on my old pc :D Same could happen with this one

I remember having this same issue with the sharkoon se's, they do start at a very slow speed on boot.
