I am thinking of changing to a Noctua NH-D14 mainly for the noise difference and the performance seems better too.I am wondering if it's worth doing this or should i just get my fans changed? i have idle temps of usually around 40-45c on each core at 4ghz and around 60-65c on each core max in games.(usually 55-60 if it isn't BFBC2 or high intensive cpu useage games)

As you can see my temps seem decent considering i have speedstep disabled too so it's always at 4ghz hence the idle temps being a bit high though the noise of my fans irritate me as the case is quiet itself. So should i go for it? or should i replace the fans? if so what fans should i get? i hear people talking of the gentle typhoons but i am not sure if they perform as well.

Thanks.

I know a lot of people will argue with me but its not worth it, the megahalems is an amazing cooler (its got the best mounting system imo) and the performance is marginal compared to noctua especially using low rpm fans. I know because i've gone from a mega to a d14. and i'm using 2 apaches at pwm 900rpm save you're money.

and as long as you're not going above 70+c i really wouldn't worry.
those temps are correct for that setup at 4ghz

I've ended up lapping both my cpu and d14 because the 1-2c difference i got compared to mega wasn;t worth it, with it lapped its about 3c better, but the mounting system makes it feel likes there isn;t enough contact pressure

Get a couple of better fans such as the Thermalright TR TY-140s. Quiet and very effective since they are 140mm (although they use 120mm mountings).

Stick a few 140mm fans on it, (the megahelims clips work fine with theese). The mega is still a pretty good cooler, plus theres no ram clearance issues with it.
