Following on from my last thread:

Replacement video card in.. same problems.. well slightly different problems.. This time I was playing dawn of war 2, and it played fine for a little while then got totally messed up.. Threw a grenade and instead of smoke I got some wierd kaleidoscope of square shapes and all the other particle type effects looked the same..

Is it conceivable that they have sent me another faulty video card? It says tested on the bag it came in..

If it isnt the video card, does anyone have suggestions as to what I can try instead?

Cheers..

Hutch

I havent read all posts in other thread so dont know if youve tried this but have you tried a complete format of HDD and reinstall? Its unlikely gfx card faulty if theyve tested it before sending it out, but it is obviously a gfx error, so maybe a bad driver, I take it you have uninstalled your drivers using driversweeper and installed new ones, so suggesting the re-format in case theres still some trace of bad driver left???

Can you try the gpu in another pc or change the PSU with another pc, I had a look at a pc which was doing strange things and it turned out to be the PSU.

I have tried reformatting but with little success...

For some reason my gut has always been telling me its the PSU.. I don't know why but it just feels like it is!

Not overheating I think.. CPU during gaming never gets above low 40's.. GPU maxed at 79 which I believe is fine for a gtx280..

Sadly I dont have access to an alternative PSU to try :( Not sure what to try next.. May just buy a PSU and sell it if it does the same thing, least it would put my mind at ease :(

Your PSU should give 50A at 12V and is more than capable of running a GTX280 unless it has devoloped a fault.

Have you checked you memory and northbridge. It may be work bumping the NB 0.1V and ensuring the timings for the memory are set conservatively and the voltage is set according to manufactures guidance. Often this is 2.0-2.2V vs the default of 1.8V

I ran memtest and it returned no errors.. That means it isnt a ram issue right?

Usually it does, how long did you let it run for? 8hrs+ is a good indication

Did you bump the northbridge volts a little?

I let it run overnight. Not tried upping the nb voltage yet.. Will give that a try now.

I thought maybe that had fixed it but no..had a problem after 4 missions.. so same as before really.. its always been quite sporadic..

Any more ideas?

Also do people think this more likely to be a faulty psu or motherboard or what? The psu does one odd thing when it starts.. everything spins up etc then it seems to stop then power up again... Guess this could easilly be mobo too :(
