Mem & CPU upgrade for X58

I'm looking for a mem and CPU upgrade for my P6T Deluxe. Been away from the hardware scene for so long I'm not even sure what's compatible. Full spec is in my sig.

What's the i7 920 at now? (GHz)

3.4 - I can never seem to get it stable above that no matter what guides I follow.

Err unless you go 2nd hand you wont find a CPU that fits your board.

Aye not expecting new kit, more of a compatibility query as my hardware knowledge is pretty out of date.

Should I ditch half the RAM? I only have it as someone gave it to me.
