Hey guys, finally got to grips with this Gigabyte board and software and the system spec is as follows below:

Intel Core 2 Duo e6300
2gb (2x1gb matched) Corsair Value Select PC5300 DDR2
Gigabyte GA-945P-S3, I945P
Cpu Cooler Titan Vanessa-L TTC-NK25TB/SC (RB) Heatpipe Cooling Fan
Palit 7900GS 512mb ddr3
Hiper Type R 580W PSU

Now when OC'n the cpu it goes to around 12% and that gives me a clock of just over 2.1ghz, however any higher and the system freezes and the OC fails. This has led me to believe that maybe the Memory which is of Value select is the problem as Iv heard of e6300's getting pretty awesome clocks.

Also it could possibly be the motherboard I guess but I have no idea on that.

Any ideas?

Don't think it's the memory cuz PC5300 DDR667 will support upto 333Fsb, which brings your E6300 to 2.33Ghz.

Have you tried upping the vcore??

It may be the 945 chipsets which don't OC as well as the newest 965

Check the ram timings + voltage are correct.
Turn off anything you don't use in the BIOS - onboard items, legacy usb option etc.
Put latest BIOS on motherboard.
Bump CPU voltage a notch.
What temps is the chip running under load?

:)

its around 38-40 idle, got some arctic silver however which i could now add to the cpu to improve the contact with the heat sink.

Whats the best program for monitoring the cpu temp?

I uped the vcore to 1.38 in the easytune software and it is certainly clocking easily now, up to 323fsb and climbing, how how can the vcore go safely however? sinc ei dont knwo too much about things like this, just learning still :)

The most widely used for Core 2 Duo's is "Intel TAT (Thermal Analysis Tool)", it's supposed to be the one intel technicians use to monitor things and it got let out to the public by someone... Or something like that.

ok got it running with 333fsb now, vcore 1.38, all seems fine, now some benchies however!

Its interesting tho I downloaded the aforementioned program and that reads the cpu at 57degrees c yet the Gigabyte program is suggesting it is running at 46degrees c idle.....hmmmmmm!

Il try intel TAT however

Save thing happens Intel TAT reports around 10 degrees higher than that of the Gigabyte monitor

Load is 71 on both cores according to TAT but 64 acording to Gigabyte, what do u think?

get as amny monitering pprograms, there should be some that will show the same, and maybe just one that shows 10c above, also updfate your bios, sometimes they get it wrong

also to oc properly just set the fsb for what you want to aim for and then make the voltage go up untill it is stable, if you have to up it too much then simply lover the voltage and then drop the fsb till you have the optimal, thats all there is to it really, well that and patience

Yeah it kinda decides no on the restart tho, I take it that just means i need to up the vcore? Like il change the fsb and not the volatge in the bios and it will just start to boot, get to the first screen to test mem etc and then it reboots @ either original speed or just one core (9xxmhz) I take it this would be normal practice if the vcore is not high enough?
It could possibly be Mobo related tho thats the thing, i may look to get a better board for the OC! But yes I do have the latest bios for the mobo
