why does cpuz say my memory is pc6400 when its suppose to be pc8500
its installed on a asus maximus formula board,q6600 cpu and the ram is crucial ballistix tracer pc8500 supposebly all runnin at 3.5ghz 389x9 the ram at 5-5-5-18 2.2v

It's quite common to see memory reporting itself as one speed lower than it should be. A lot of PC6400 reports itself as PC5300 in CPU-Z.

PC8500 is usually just high-binned PC6400 anyway.

The Memory tab of CPU-Z will say its current speed (you have to double the reading as it's Double Data Rate memory).
