***Edit*** Thread updated to include Emergency Services Blue Light Card.

This is for any member both past and present of our forces and may save you quite a bit. Some of you may have heard of the Defence Privelege Card from the Defence Discount Service but if you haven't it's a card that gives you a discount (sometimes significant) at certain shops and websites. It costs £4.99 for a 5 year membership and since I have had mine (ex RAF Mechanical Engineer) I have saved several hundred pounds so it's well worth having. If you would like one you can sign up here for Forces members or here for Emergency Services members. You need to have a Defence Privlege Card or Blue Light Card to participate so if you haven't got one yet do that first.

The reason I am bringing this up now is that they have done a deal with Esso for a fuel card that you will save between 3p and 6p per litre at a Esso filling station. The card itself is free for Defence Privelege Card and Blue Light Card users and the discounts are as follows:-

This has the potential to be quite a saving on what you would normally pay and luckily for me the Esso garage in Elgin is usually the cheapest or joint cheapest for fuel so it's a no brainer for me and I just signed up for a card which they say will take 12-14 days to arrive. You can apply for the Esso card here.

I have no links to either scheme and have nothing to gain but promoting it. I just thought that with tiny or no pay rises over the past several years and many of you relying on Tax Credits to prop up your monthly pay that a little extra help would be welcome.

It's also better than the defence, they're both the same company iirc, because more people know what it is.

It's well worth the £5 just for the saving at go outdoors alone.

Yeah I find better offers on blue light than DDS. Getting good use of the Asda 10% back in savings pot.

Been meaning to sort this for what seems years now. Will sort it after my holiday...thanks for the reminder!

I've had as much as 20% off at Go Outdoors before, and that's on top of any discounted/sale reductions!
Our local Beefeater also accepts DD card, making for a very cheap breakfast buffet.

However, I'm finding more and more places have stopped taking DD cards and switched to the Blue Light one.

Yeah the savings in go outdoors is awesome, some cashiers will allow price match and the discount! Only happened twice though, most of the time they deny it!

I had one of these cards a few years back. I must've been shopping in the wrong places as I was hardly using it. Then CBA to carry it around with me. no idea what happened to it.

I got more use out of the veterans pin in some of the local hostelries. That didn't save me much either but it did allow me to drink more.

I have updated the opening post to include the Blue Light Card for our Emergency Services members and added links of where to apply for the cards.
