memeory stick recovery

my nephew has his college work on his memory stick but when he plugs it in it just heats up and he cant access it,tried on 4 pcs and the same,has the stick gone and if so can you recover the work on it cheers

Not helpful but I have just had this with my super tough OCZ ATV 8GB. It lights up when I plug it in, but does no more. I am anal about closing it down in the systray before I remove it. It does this on any PC I've tried it on. Any advice please guys?

If it shows up in My Computer you have a chance, but it it's not responding at all you might be out of luck unfortunately.

Mine doesn't show up in my computer (although it did once).

Open DISK MANAGEMENT (Under Administrative Tools) or Computer Management in W7 and see if its recognized there.
Mine, for no apparent reason, died. Everything lost. Totally useless. I guess it just happens. Was my fastest pen drive too.

If the drive shows up you can try File Scavenger or Get Data Back.

If it shows up as a drive letter but with no capacity listed run a chkdsk on it.
