A member of the University’s staff has asked several students to remove memes they have posted on the Aberystwyth Uni Memes Facebook page relating to members of University staff. The messages read as follows:

"I have received a number of complaints about the nature of some of the Aberystwyth Uni Memes which have been posted on the Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/AberUniMemes

I am under the impression that you are the producer of a meme/ Administrator or user of this group which is why I am contacting you.

I’d like to make a simple request for you to please remove any of your memes which name or include any photographs of members of University staff. I do understand that this page is nothing to do with Aberystwyth University (other than its name association and content references) but I am very concerned that some pictures are either attacking and/ or offending members of University Staff (and perhaps some students) and in some extreme cases is verging on libel. Would you be willing to remove the pictures that this applies to?"

It’s not clear how many people have removed their images in response to the requests.

And this is the FB page - http://www.facebook.com/AberUniMemes

Going to be honest and some of the lectures shouldn't really take any offense because the 'memes' that have been made about them are completely true and it's their own fault for being weird. :D

These things are actually doing my head in on Facebook, literally every university I'm aware of has one of these meme pages now and for the past week my news feed has been bombarded with these images. Generally they are all practically the same with a different title in the image. They should leave the memes to 4Chan.

Every single university has had a meme page go up in the past few days, it's become a craze.

We also got a warning email about social media telling us not to defame the university. Naturally, the first pic on the meme page was that email with the LOL rageface guy edited on top of it.

As an aside, I only recently found out that you pronounce meme as 'meem' not 'mem' as I'd always thought. So there you go.

I always used to think it was pronounced 'me me' :o

All the memes are done incorrectly, too :'( (the ones I've seen, anyway).

Yeah the majority of the Leeds ones I have saw are done wrong.

Memes need to be put in a corner of the Internet and forgotten about now, they've run their course.

People are way too easily offended, don't they have more important things to worry about? like raping students bank accounts?

It's amusing how its only just entered the public eye so to speak and how "edgy" some students think they are.

That saying, I find the whole affair amusing due to the relevant application of some of them, as well as the banter with rival universities.
