Memory 4 slots or 2 slots question

Hi i#m thinking of getting an upgrade.

and a new i7 6900 broadwell -E

I want to go for 32 gb, now the question

Does it matter if I go for 2 x 16Gb , or 4 x 8Gb. which is best.

I remember the old days 1t and 2t timings etc. so thought i'd pose the question before biting the bullet

Seeing as its x99, it'll need to be quad channel so 4x8gb ideally
