At the moment I am running 2GB of Corsair DDR2 CAS4 memory on my E6600 Conroe. What im wondering is the performance gain from using 4gb over 2gb worth it and does anyone know if there is there any problems arising with this and the conroe chip..

Btw were not talking price here, but performance and effective performance in modern games.

Any advice or experience wanted....

Thanks

Well Windows XP 32-bit won't recognize more than 3gb of memory...and 2gb is more than enough for now.

Well actually from Microsoft's website xp professional page.Clickyyy It says

Supports up to 4 gigabytes (GB) of RAM and up to two symmetric multiprocessors.

XP 64-bit supports upto 128GB of RAM!!! But I'm sure you don't need that much :D

EDIT: About the performance gains. Not much in games but helpful for RAM sucking programs like CAD visualisation, scientific stuff etc.

Actually my bad, watching a video a 3d animator who compares the two versions of windows, he says that the 32 bit XP computer has 4GBs of RAM but XP 32 bit only recognises 3GBs of it, he also said xp64 can use 16 TERABYTES osf RAM!!!! .

Though the MS website says 32bit supports upto 4GB of RAM

2gb of ram is fine, your computer wont use another 2gb, and ram not used is wasted ram as they say!! :)

I bet in about 5-10 years 128GB of RAM will be standard. Its like 5 years ago I could never fill 4Gb of HDD space. Now all new games use Gb's of HDD space.

I remember the good days of 4Mb of RAM :D

Prob 1Thz with 64 Cores, 1Tb RAM, 100TB HDD! Cant wait! Even this wont be enough for modern programs! :p

Possibly...but then again stuff seems to be getting much more efficient. Could end up needing less ram..who knows
