Hi All,

Im looking for some advice about RAM.

I have the Z370 Aorus Gaming 5 and an Intel 8700K CPU. I was originally looking at the
8Pack TEAM GROUP DARK PRO " EDITION" 16GB 3200MHZ RAM to go with this.

Now the CPU page only states that the "Supported" RAM it goes up to is DDR4-2666 and anything above that is considered an overclock.

I'm not looking to receive ultimate "cutting edge" performance from my RAM, i'd prefer that it was rock solid stable as a reasonable speed and it doesn't require much tweaking. I only intend to use this machine for gaming with some light Photoshopping as a hobby not a profession.

My questions are
1. Has anybody used this RAM with this setup who could confirm it works?
2. How much more of a performance increase would I see compared to a 2666MHz set of similarly timed RAM? (If at all)
3.Plan is to run 16GB currently and eventually move to 32GB when the prices of RAM drop, If having to use XMP 2.0 to run these at the required speed will this cause issues when installing another 16GB further down the line? (Guess I may have to re-select XMP 2.0 if it resets?)

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have this exact setup, works fine. Not pushed Ram in bios and probably never will, it all runs very well together.
I'm using mine mainly for gaming and a little video editing.

I always think in terms of two levels of RAM. For the 8700K there is the standard at about £200 and the next step up is about £240. It tends not to matter what frequency the settings are because even if you set the frequency low, you can adjust the timing to be quicker and or the voltage to be higher, so increasing performance but it just comes down to the two types. "common" RAM and "performance" RAM. If you go from 2666 to 3200 there is in theory about a 25% increase in speed, but the truth is that in practice this just is not realised. Invariably the timings worsen, which just slows down the memory again, and the real life access to the RAM tends to be slower than the theory. In practice overall system gain for games, say, is in fact only about one tenth of the theory. So most people tend to go for middle of the road RAM because it saves money and doesn't affect performance in a noticeable way. The memory you mention is good stuff, 8Pack will probably tell me off for saying this but the XMP also seems to set the voltage to the highest I have seen for any common memory, so I would call it enthusiasts memory. It's up to you to do the maths here and figure out whether it suits your overall plan regards cost and performance, but I really wouldn''t lose sleep over it. It's not going to make much difference.

1.35v may seem high conpared to regular Jedec standard at 1.2v but it is perfectly safe, in fact, those sticks with samsung b-die tolerate much higher voltage of up to 1.45v for 24/7 usage no problem.
