Hi all,

I'm planning a new build in the next month or so and just picking what bits and pieces I want to go in it.

I think I'm going to go for Core 2 Quad Pro Q6700 CPU which has a 1066FSB. Now I'm confused, does this mean it has to have / works best with 1066Mhz memory? So something like GeIL Black Dragon memory which I'm thinking of having with the Asus P5K motherboard?

On the other hand I've heard good things about the 680i chipset and am considering an Asus Striker Extreme motherboard but this "only" accepts up to 800Mhz memory. In which case I'd pair it with XMS2 Dominator memory. But as it's less than the 1066FSB that the CPU is using am I going to lose performance?

I suppose the main question is which is the better of the two options?

Thanks for your time.

P.S. Not sure if this has any relevance but I'm not planning on overclocking anything on my new PC.

The 1066mhz FSB is really only 266mhz. Therefore you only 'need' 533mhz PC2-4200 to run it at stock.

And very few boards admit to offering support for memory faster than 800mhz (PC2-6400), but all the 680i, 650i, P965 and P35 boards will accept upto ~1100-1200mhz memory.

So you've plenty of choices available.
