Hi all,
Im putting together a system at the moment with the 3770k/gtx780/z77 sabertooth. At the moment I have 8gb single channel DDR3 x 1. I wondering if this could be a bottleneck for the system. I am installing a large heatsink which will cover the ram slots so I am restricted to normal sized RAM ie no fancy bits on top, so really need to know before I install the heatsink. Any help would be appriecated. I dont have the specific type of RAM available at the moment, I will edit it in later.

You would benefit from Dual Channel for sure. You looking at 2 x 4gb or 2 x 8gb?? If your gaming 8gb is enough, encoding etc you may need more.

Thanks for the reply, If I was going to upgrade I would go for 2 x 8GB dual channel for sure. I mostly game but I might be doing some music editing on my pc so I think 2 x 8gb dual channel should be fine. My main restriction is size of RAM. I have a dark pro 2 heatsink so I need to buy average sized RAM. My motherbaord supports DDR3 1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz. I was look at this for starting point.

Any thoughts?

With 3770K go 1600mhz+ as the IMC on the chip is native at that speed and needs the bandwidth from the extra speed. Any 1600mhz C9 kit or indeed 1866mhz C9 kit will more than meet your needs.

Hi thanks for the reply, I'm not really familiar with C9 I'm not sure what you mean. Any help would be great?

CAS 9 is the timing eg cas 9 was some of the tightest timings making your system more efficient something like these would suit you and are not tall

you do get a few more colour just type ddr3 c9 on OCUK web site and youll see which ones they have to offer, although make sure you read it the sites search is good but sometimes adds a few c10 and c11 in there
