Hi All,

I'm running an i7 860 with 4.0gb RAM and running some CCTV software on there with a few cameras which is causing 80-85 hard faults/sec. To get this down should I be adding more RAM, faster RAM or both? Usage is at 45%.

My first post in this section of the forum so please be gentle!

I would download and run memtest86,see if it throws up any errors, could be dram or CPU vtt voltage not right

When I run memtest86 it tests automatically, if it passes your ram is okay, if not it will let you know. I would first make sure you are running ram at correct timings and voltage.

Hard faults aren'r really "faults" so I don't think there's anything wrong with your RAM.

A hard fault happens when the address in memory of part of a program is no longer in main memory but has been instead swapped out to the paging file making the system go looking for it on the hard disk.

Adding more RAM may help if you have a 64 bit operating system to support it.

If it's not actually causing you any performance issues then you can just leave it.
