Need to finalise the options and for occasional home video editing and general use, which memory option is better?

2 x 8GB 3200 14CL or 2 x 16Gb 3200 16CL.

I prefer to stick to 2 modules rarther than 4.

This will be on Croasshair VII motherboard and Ryzen 2700X CPU, be Quiet Dark base 900 pro rev. 2 case, be quiet cooler and PSU as well.

14CL 3200 is in theory faster, but you usually don't see noticeable performance differences from Ram speed.

As for 16 vs 32 gig, it makes no difference if you can't use it. I have a 32 gig machine and find that you just run out of CPU power for running multiple applications before you exceed 16 gig of Ram. If you have reason to believe you can use 32 gig then that will be much better.

From what I've seen, 16 gig isn't necessary outside of enterprise servers.
Either way though I don't think either your example memory kits will have a noticeable speed boost over one another.

depends on how into video editing you are, tbh (and also at what resolution/program you're using)
16 gb is for general usage/gaming. 32gb ideally for heavier duty video editing.

as an aside, i think you need to consider posting in general hardware. a lot of questionable component choices from the few details you've provided...if i may say so.

also, if you don't need the build soon, can consider waiting a few (2-3) months to see what ryzen 3000 brings to the table.
