Would you see a noticable difference between dual channel RAM with 9-9-9-27 and 11-11-11-28 running at 1600?

and I take it photoshop, lightrooms, gaming & encoding would see no difference also?

I doubt it I'm not 100% sure but unless your measure things down to the millisecond or less It shouldn't affect your performance.

Rendering and encoding will be slightly quicker. If you have a choice then get the RAM with the tighter timings.
Are you going to be overclocking?

Overclocking the CPU yes, but not the RAM. I'm just planning my Haswell upgrade to the 4770k (I know it's early, but I have to budget). I do a lot of Video Encoding, PS & Lightrooms as well as gaming. Just wanted to know if it's worth shelling out the extra for tighter timings.

Why not the RAM?
You'll notice a difference with the RAM at say 2133MHz 9,10,10,21 1T compared to a bogstandard CAS 9 1600MHz.

It's not something I'm comfortable with o/c'ing.
Would it not be worth buying the 2133mhz RAM as the prices are not that different?
Would any RAM be able to hit that speed? I've been looking at the Corsair Vengeance Low Profile stuff!

Encoding, why not consider a move to x79 and grab a kit of sammy greens, should do you well to at least 2000-2133mhz, while the potential extra threads from a good x79 setup is likely to wipe the floor with anything haswell has to offer in multi threaded programs.

Not every RAM. In fact i'd advise you to steer clear of the Corsair low profile stuff, not great clockers. Samsung Green is the king of the low profile.

If you're not comfortable with overclocking RAM, we can help here, especially 8 Pack.
Also, you could get some decent 2133MHz RAM and all you have to do to set it to 2133MHZ is enable XMP in the BIOS.. Job done.

hmmm...something to think about and the X79 I have been looking at as I love the look of the hex-core! I'd be intereseted to see if Ivy-E have a hex to be released also.

Thanks for your input gents :D

For your uses I would go X79 and 2133mhz RAM. It all makes sense.

If you insist on staying with the Z77 platform I would still go with a good 2133mhz C9 kit. RAM makes any overclock efficient and gives the CPU the badwidth to perform its tasks.

Ivy e is rumored to come in hex and oct core favours, so a potential 16 threads!

OCt cores pfft doubt it very much. fairly certain you'll get the ivy equivs of the CPU's availible today.

I was wondering earlier would it not be better to go frequency over cas timings.

I know when I build a PC for the missus she'll be going X79 Quad channel for her Coding and development needs. Which would mean she has a better PC than me but I don't use Adobe suite and Don't need anymore FPS for league of legends and CS:go haha. Her laptop however would very much like a break from all the abuse.

She's getting hand me downs on the rest of the contents just a decent X79 bundle going into my old build.

See....that brings be to questions the need for X79 and how often it'll get used to it's full potential. I do video encoding for family, burning films to DVD & backups as well as Photoshop & Lightrooms v3, but my issue is, if you are only looking at encoding, PS & Lightrooms 2/3/4 times a week, does it warrant the cost of the hardware......?!

well it's a good question as a gamer and forum addict I can't justify an 8core let alone a x79 chipset.

But the missus says she needs to run 3 adobe products at any one time not to mention compilers and Java c++ w/e project she'll be working on. (yes yes I can hear mac fan boys saying why doesn't she get a mac..... and the answer is becuase I work at OcUK )

From the work perspective It will be used for several years it's not like a gaming pc that will show it's age in 18 months it will be used for it's real strengths and when it's done compiling rendering and all that it'll probably become a data server so it will never In my opinion be wasted.

I'm just going from the last round of rumors I had seen posted around the internet, that was an 8 core SB-E chip, followed by IB-E hex cores then eventually IB-E oct cores.

True or not? pass. I'd guess you're in a better position to answer that then me :)

TwsT you been listening to me again!!!

Always listening mate.

IRTpgi
But yes Rumours are exactly that I would take them with a pinch of salt you know how Intels specs get leaked a few months before release every time so it won't be long till it's as good as confirmed

IRT snips

I don't think you would need x79 but 2 sticks of that samsung ram wouldn't hurt ya. Sounds like as your not doing it every day you won't get a benifit from it. You can leave it rendering whilst you do other things if your doing it that infrequently
