Memory causing my BSOD?

Hey guys,

I have to admit I am a bit of a noob but seem to be winning on some grounds. I have just built my first custom PC.

My set is: i5 2500K, P8P67 LE, 4gb RAM and 2 1tb drives.

Everything in the build went well and I was very cautions in putting everything together in the first place. But I seem to be having a few issues. I have been getting the BSOD when booting up, I have tried booting the computer with one stick of ram at a time to try and see whether maybe I had faulty RAM but with both it worked fine. I am not sure now whether i have a problem with the mobo or the memory when working together... Is that possible? Maybe I have done something wrong.

The most strange thing about it all is that after the BSOD I reboot and windows offers to repair the problem and once this has run its cause i am able to get into windows and it runs like nothing happens. But this happens every time i start up from a fresh restart. Recently I have been leaving my PC to sleep and that doesn't seem to affect it... Seems silly to be afraid of turning the thing off!

Any advice? Sorry if I sound stupid.. Thank for your help in advance

:)

Is the system clocked and if not are you running everything on auto - have you adjusted any BIOS settings?

Also, what's the spec/brand of the memory.

For now reset the CMOS and then go into the BIOS and load optimised defaults (or similar) then save and exit.

Re-enter the BIOS and then set the memory's voltage, frequency and timings manually - then save and exit (leave everything else on defaults).

Then run memtest for a few hours and then prime 95 if it passes memtest.

But, if it BSODs straight away post back...

Not oc the system yet running everything pretty much stock. I have reset the bios and the CMOS. Wasn't quite sure what values to input for the memory frequency, timing and voltage values.

I am running 2x 2gb OCZ platinum 12800 1600mhs sticks.

Running memtest now.. Will then see how prime goes after..

Do you know exact model as there a couple of OCZ 12800 Platinum sets which have different timings/voltages?

Have you enabled the XMP in the BIOS (if you have this option) - but ideally you would set the values manually once you know the full details of your memory.

Your link leads to a product unavailable - but it does give the product code OCZ3P1600C9ELV4GK.

Which is this - link

So you need to set your frquency to 1600, voltage to 1.35V and timings CL 9-9-9-24 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS) - save and exit.

So far so good. Ran Memtest for 2 hours and ten ran prime95 for 3 hours. No errors seem to have come up. I will boot up later and see if the problem persists..

Thank you all for your help so far!

I've had a similar problem develop.
Was getting random BSODS for a while, reinstalled windows and did lots of software/driver testing with help on Sevenforums. Now looks like I either have a duff RAM stick or possibly socket. Mine BSODS every time I cold boot with all 3 RAM sticks installed. Switch off and on again and it will run perfectly.

Im currently in the process (again) of running one stick of RAM at a time for a few days to see if there are problems. If they all work well in slot1 then I'll move onto another slot and see what happens.

Good luck finding your issue :)
