Memory Channel Gone Bad

One of my memory channels on my Gigabyte z97x Gaming 7 seems to have gone bad so I'm left with the one channel for both of my ram sticks. What sort of impact does this have on performance? I'm noticing some stuttering in games but not sure if I'm just noticing it now or its always been that way.

Forget this, I had a second stab at fixing it and found some muck on the bottom of the cpu. All memory channels working again.

good to hear

think when i;ve used single channel on games on intel board/chipset max/min frame rate stay the same but in between - the average shoots up and down!
still dont know how gaming laptops from alienware get away with selling a single stick for extreme prices
