You didn't state anything about what motherboard you're running of your voltage settings. Sounds to be like you're pumping too much voltage into the northbridge for the class of overclock.
You should try and find yourself an antec spotcool fan. It can be used anywhere in your system by installing it into a motherboard screw hole, and can be used for the ram, NB, or graphics card(s).
56C seems on the high side, especially at idle. Could be the cause for your instability. My X48 chipset idles at around 42C at an FSB of 400MHz (1600). Your X38 chipset is likely on a 333MHz (1333) FSB.
99% of the time ram cooling fans are a gimmick, you don't really need to cool ram unless you're putting lots of extra voltage thru it in order to achieve crazy overclocks...
However, if you're watercooling or shoving 3.6v thru some BH-5 ram then a fan may be worthwhile...
Thats why the Antec Spotcool fan is better than a dedicated memory cooler. If you decide you dont need it for your memory, you can use it somewhere else
The ram coolers that clip on over the ram are pointless.
