I spent a third of my life in bed, and figure it deserves a bit of attention.

It's a comfy bed I suppose. Very average. Nothing special. More firm than soft I guess.

So how does one improve ones sleep?

I was thinking memory foam. I've seen the adverts, if i liked jumping up and down on the bed with 5 glasses of red wine on the other side, and I didn't want to spill them, i'd snap that foam up in a second.

But is it nice and soft? I'm imagining it to be like sleeping in playdoh.
I do like the nice hotel beds, that are incredibly soft..

I've got a part sprung part memory foam mattress. I didn't find the pure memory foam to be that comfortable.

It is the best bed I've ever slept in.

Look at memory foam toppers... I got one for my birthday last year. Very comfortable to sleep on :)

Memory foam is comfy but will make you sweat as it doesn't breath properly, decent hotels will be using good quality pocket sprung mattresses with a nice topper. Shop aqround and try plenty but don't expect them to be cheap!

Bought one about a year or so ago, sleep has vastly imrpoved since. No springs sticking in your back lol

I cant cope with the mattresses. Find them very comfy for maybe an hour or two but always end up waking up in the middle of the night feeling very uncomfortable.

Love the pillows though!

Got a topper last year and its great sleep quality has vastly improved. Although when your partaking in adult activities it was harder work than a normal bed.

Get one you wont regret it.

Always makes me sweat when I sleep in a memory foam mattress. Apart from that though they're great. Just expect to wake up boiling in the middle of the night.

IF your bed is comftable, not damaged and not a problem, don't replace it. My parents had a fine bed, decided to replace it, was rather old but great, they got a bigger bed, she's had two years of back pain because of it and are likely now replacing it with a bigger version of the old mattress.

If you need a new mattress, go test them out, ask for advice from a proper bed store, independant store with proper advice rather than a big chain with random people working the sales floor.

Or, just buy a hotel bed, when I can afford one I'm getting the Marriot bed, its incredibly comftable, £1200 for a double, up to £1800 for a superking with prices inbetween, mattress, bed base and mattress topper.

Best nights sleep I ever had was at a high end Marriort in New York.

You can always go stay the night some time in a marriot, if you love the bed, buy one ;)

This is what we've got. A normal spring mattress with pockets of springs, with a thick layer of memory foam on top.

Got it for my bad back, seems to be quite helpful since I've not had any twinges for two years.

As for comfyness it's not really any better or worse then an ordinary one.

I have a platinum mattress from the memory foam mattress company anyway foam density wise it's the same as a tempur and i must say i love the thing, does need swapping ends every month as the side will flatten.

Works great for those aches and pains.

Do a search for memory foam on this forum and you'll get loadsa results. I recently purchased a latex topped, 1400 pocket spring from Dreams for about £720 (double size).

It's been awesome to sleep on, although I was tempted by a similar priced memory foam mattress. Given that I have an £100 Tempur memory foam pillow that is a pita to lie on during summers I decided to go for the pocket spring one. Not regretted it at all.

Memory foam + spring is the best way.
Memory foam isn't comfortable for more than a few hours, springs just seperate in dig into me.

Goose down pillows and duvet are a must too.

I feel so much better for getting a memory foam + spring mattress, my back pain isn't nearly as bad as it used to me. The pillows and duvet? They're just gravy.

I slept well on a part sprung one, but I wouldn't say any better than on a normal mattress. Didn't get on well with a full foam one. Both made me sweat like a sleeping rapist as well.
