Can anyone suggest the best memory to buy for my i7 2600K and asus maximus extreme build.
I have been looking at the corsair vengeance 2x4GB

I got the corsair vengeance last week, had no problems with it at all, quite good looking aswel! the other option is the corsair xms ddr 3 one, but it's nowhere near as good looking.

But the Vengeance is big, so make sure the cooler your getting has enough clearence to fit over it... bearing in mind you might want to get a cooler to go ontop of your ram aswel.

found a post by googling "xms vs vengeance"

Any of the 2x4GB kits will be fine just consider the following:

1) Ideally the memory should run at 1.5V which is the recommendation for Sandybridge

2) 1600MHz memory is plenty fast enough and personally I don't think the extra cost for faster RAM is worth the marginal difference it makes

3) Memory without fancy high profile heat spreaders will have the best compatability with the larger CPU coolers

4) There's no need for a memory cooler
