hello all

probably discussed here before but i have to ask anyway as this memory is not cheap?

but which memory as i,m not sure about intel and the best latencies for performace?

I,m not a overclocker by the way

i,m thinking of getting a conroe e6700 with:

Asus p965 or 975x motherboard
x1900xt

memory:

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-8000 Dual Channel XTC Platinum Series EL-DDR2 (OCZ2P10002G-K) (MY-066-OC)
- 1000MHz DDR2
- CL 5-5-5-15 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
- Unbuffered
- Platinum Mirrored XTC Heatspreader
- Lifetime Warranty
- 2.6 Volts
- 240 Pin DIMM
- Enhanced Latency Technology
- 2.1V EVP

£352

or

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-8000 Dual Channel Extreme Edition XTC Platinum Series EL-DDR2 (OCZ2P10002GEEK) (MY-068-OC)

- 1000MHz DDR2
- CL 4-5-4-15 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
- Unbuffered
- Platinum Mirrored XTC Heatspreader
- Lifetime Warranty
- 2.6 Volts
- 240 Pin DIMM
- Enhanced Latency Technology
- 2.2V EVP

£317

do you have to overclock these for them to run 1000MHz DDR2 ?

would these be ok for an asus board of either chipsest?

thanks

Dont get the 6700, get the 6600 and overclock it, you save 200bucks for 266mhz. For the ram, get a nice DDR2 800/1000 kit with CL4 timings, preferable the last one you selected. When you get one of these kits you selected you dont have to overclock.

hi

thanks for the feedback, if i get the £317 ram i dont have to overclock it to run it at 1000.

Are you going to be overclocking your conroe ?

If you are and will be pushing your FSB up around 400 + then you will find most current motherboards can have a problem running the mem at 1:1 or 4:5. Most require you to run your mem at 4:3 which makes your expensive ram reduntant.

If your going to be running your conroe at stock or with a small overclock say upto 330 FSB then the above ram will run at 3:5 or 3:4 with nice latencies :)

I have some team group 667 which cost £143, it does upto 430 with 4-4-4-12 but I couldnt run it 1:1. I then bought some more expensive G.Skill HZ thinking it would help but it was just the same. In the end Ive kept my Team group for now and returned the G.skill as Im only running it around 322 Mhz 4-4-4-12.

I guess you could go for some of the 3-3-3-8 5400 sticks then at least you can run them at there full potential.
